In 1986, I first met Peter Hesse, whose family started this renown German manufacturer in 1881. He said “that’s my family’s name on the paint – it must be the very best, or my name is worth nothing!” Schmincke do indeed make the finest colours for artists, combining 140 years of paintmaking tradition with German technology and exactitude.
