As one of six Schmincke Brand Ambassadors worldwide, I work closely with this German manufacturer and their famous artists materials. This is an example of YInMn Blue, the first blue since the 1930s to be developed for painters, and recently made available from Schmincke as a Limited Edition in their ranges of oilcolour, acrylic, and watercolour paints. While expensive, it is a unique colour. Chromatically, it’s close to Cobalt Blue Deep and Ultramarine, but unlike those blues, YInMn is opaque – in fact is the only fully opaque single pigment blue available to artists.
